The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece called Russia’s recognition of the independence of the DPR and LPR a violation of the law. The Greek Foreign Ministry said in a statement:
“Russia’s recognition of the illegal and unilateral declaration of the “independence” of the separatist territories of Donetsk and Luhansk of Ukraine is a clear violation of the fundamental principles of international law, the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the Minsk agreements. We have repeatedly stressed that Greece stands for respect for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of all states and condemns any decision that is contrary to these fundamental principles of international law. As part of its commitment to the European Union and NATO, Greece will consult and coordinate with its European partners and allies regarding the response to this decision.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, after an extraordinary meeting of the Security Council, addressed the citizens of the Russian Federation and stated that he considers it necessary to make a decision to immediately recognize the sovereignty of the LNR and the DNR. Because those who embarked on the path of bloodshed, violence and lawlessness did not recognize and do not recognize any other solution to the conflict in Donbass, except for the military one. Immediately after the appeal, the president in the Kremlin signed decrees recognizing the LPR and DPR, reports RIA News.
The situation in the Donbass has escalated in recent days, the DPR and LPR have announced a lot of shelling by the Ukrainian security forces. As the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin stated, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky will soon order the military to launch an offensive in the Donbass, to implement a plan to invade the unrecognized republics. On Saturday, February 19, the leaders of the DPR and LPR signed decrees on general mobilization.
