Novak Djokovic to be deported from Australia with 3-year travel ban

The first racket of the world still will not be able to take part in the Australian Open – Novak Djokovic will be deported from Australia.

A federal court dismissed, according to ABC, the tennis player’s appeal against the decision of the Minister of Immigrant Affairs to annul his visa. From the day the decision is made, the ban on visiting Australia by Djokovic for the next three years also comes into effect. After reviewing the case by a three-member panel of judges, Judge James Allsop ruled:

reject Djokovic’s petition; to lay the payment of legal costs on the athlete; the motivational part of the judgment will be published later.

The first claims against Djokovic arose from the Australian border guards – the athlete had no vaccination against Covid. In return, he provided a document on the medical basis for a withdrawal from vaccination, as he had recently been ill. But he did not seem convincing to the Australian authorities, and the visa was canceled. Djokovic was sent to immigration detention.

local court later reversed the decision about the annulment of the visa and the Serb was released, the judge Arthur Kelly was favorable to the world tennis champion. But the epic is not over. The Australian authorities revoked the visa on January 14, and the case went to the highest court.

This case of Djokovic, who is known for his speeches against compulsory vaccination, caused a huge outcry around the world. In Sydney and Melbourne, in support of the Serbian tennis player, there were protests “Against the madness of the Australian Open”.

The Australian Open will take place from 17 to 30 January. The organizers warned that athletes without vaccinations would not be allowed to compete. Djokovic is the reigning Australian Open trophy winner. He won’t be able to defend his title.

Our publication previously reported that Stefanos Tsitsipas has been vaccinated with a single Johnson & Johnson vaccine and will be eligible to compete in the Australian Open.
