The gang members drove around Mykonos on rented mopeds, which were registered in the name of a third party.
A 28-year-old Italian man has been arrested by the Mykonos Sub-Directorate of Security after he and an accomplice (and using physical force) attacked a 39-year-old Hungarian man, who sustained minor injuries. He injured his hand while removing a valuable watch worth between 50,000 and 75,000 euros.
During the “hand-to-hand” battle, the watch was removed and the Italian and his accomplice got on a scooter and fled. The vehicle reportedly belonged to a car rental company.
The Hungarian had to go to the nearest police station to file a report. An investigation by the Mykonos Security Service revealed that the Italians had acted together, as they had formed a criminal group with the aim of committing robberies against tourists, with a specific plan of action.
To make their identification more difficult, the gang members rented a two-wheeler from a company on the island of Mykonos, using another person's identification data. The Italian is now charged with forming a criminal organization and participating in crimes. The watch has been returned to the victim.
