Six Habits That Reduce Your Risk of Premature Death by 73%


A new study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that those who follow six healthy habits can reduce their risk of premature death by 73%.

The researchers examined data on 719,147 people aged 40 to 99. The study suggests adopting the following six changes to increase life expectancy:

1. Exercises. Physical activity reduced the risk of death among test participants by more than 46%. Physical activity was defined as those who did 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise per week.

2. Quit smoking. Those who had never smoked had a 30% reduced risk of premature death.

3. Healthy eating. Eating a healthy diet rich in plant foods reduces the risk of premature death by 21%. The researchers emphasize that it is important to eat healthy plant foods, not just any plant foods.

4. Limit alcohol consumption. Drinking alcohol in moderation and avoiding frequent binge drinking is another factor that contributes to longevity.

5. Sleep. It turned out that getting a good night's sleep for 7-9 hours every night reduces the risk of death by 19%.

6. Social life. The final piece of the puzzle is positive social interaction, which can reduce the risk of death by 5%.

The study also looked at factors such as depression, anxiety, and opioid addiction. The absence of these factors will lead to a decrease in mortality by 29% and 38%, respectively. Interestingly, opioid addiction turned out to be lower in terms of harmful behavior than physical inactivity.

While following just the six lifestyle changes mentioned above can reduce your risk of death by 73%, adopting or avoiding all eight can reduce your risk by 87%.
