Halkidiki: 3 beaches without a Blue Flag

Blue flags have been removed from iconic beaches across Greece due to poor management, with the report stressing that the water quality at the beaches is excellent.

Experts from the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature and international experts made unannounced visits to the beaches. They found shortcomings in the mandatory compliance with criteria related to:

  • provision of services to bathers and visitors (including the disabled)
  • maintaining cleanliness
  • providing information
  • ensuring the safety of swimmers and visitors
  • rational management of the environment, as well as respect for the boundaries of free coastal space.

The deadline for flying the Blue Flag is July 1. Members of the National Crisis Committee and the Programme Coordination Committee, as expected, have made the decision revoke the awardin order to maintain the prestige and authority of the institution.

At the same time, inspection visits continue to all of the country's award-winning coastlines, which, for the most part, are carried out without prior noticeIf deficiencies are found on other coasts, further recalls will be announced.

Three beaches of Chalkidiki that have been stripped of the Blue Flag award: Koutloumousio, Nea Roda and Ouranoupolis. Recall that Athens News previously wrote about the withdrawal of “Blue Flags” from the beaches of Attica.
