More than 400 hacker attacks have targeted the Greek Land Registry

More than 400 hacker attacks have been recorded this week attacks to the information systems of the Land Cadastre, however, despite the attempt, the intruder was unable to penetrate the database.

This was stated in a statement by the Ministry of Digital Management on Friday. As follows from the actions to block access and the diagnostic checks carried out, the following data was revealed:

  1. This week, more than 400 attacks on the Land Cadastre information systems were recorded.
  2. Attempts, but unsuccessful, by attackers to penetrate the Database. The publication about “gaining access to the database” is not true, which is confirmed by both the contractor's security operations center and the competent state authorities monitoring the attack, including the Cybersecurity Directorate of the General Staff of the National Defense of Greece.
  3. One of the backup copies was hacked, but an attempt to export data (data exfiltration) to a foreign server failed. It is noted that the Land Registry creates copies of the database daily.
  4. The terminals of the agency's employees have been hacked, from which 1.2 GB of data have been extracted so far out of the total 200 TB available to the Land Cadastre, i.e. 0.00059%. The type of stolen files does not concern the personal information of citizens, but are typical administrative documents of services that do not affect the proper functioning of the Land Cadastre.
  5. No ransomware has been detected so far, and the measures taken significantly reduce this risk.”

Later, the Minister of Digital Governance stressed that the hacker attacks on the Land Registry were in no way connected with global digital shutdown.
