The Spanish government is going to restrict access to pornography for children and teenagers. In Madrid, they do not want to wait for the relevant decree EU will come into force in 2027 and introduces the Digital Wallet Beta.
Anyone who wants to watch erotic movies can use the app to confirm that they are 18 years of age. The user gets 30 porn credits, which are valid for one month, then they are renewed.
The Spanish government says the model will ensure data protection and that users' online activity will not be tracked. The “Beta digital wallet” should be available nationwide by the end of the summer. Beta will be voluntary for adult film providers. Online platforms may also use other methods to verify the age of their customers.
“We are acting early. And we are calling on the platforms to do the same. The stakes are high,” Spanish government spokesman José Luis Escriva told El Pais. The system will be available by the end of the summer.
