The number of candidates for the leadership of PASOK has increased to five

In the socialist party PASOK, ahead of the internal elections scheduled for October 6, as proposed over the weekend by current leader Nikos Androulakis, 5 “leadership contenders”.

This is not the first and most likely not the last time that PASOK officials have used the opportunity to make a comeback, even if some of them have been forgotten by their once loyal supporters and voters. Along with Androulakis, who will once again run for party leader, the following have also expressed their intention to challenge him:

  • Haris Doukas – Mayor of Athens
  • Pavlos Geroulanos – Member of Parliament, former Minister of Culture
  • Michalis Katrinis – Member of Parliament
  • Milena Apostolaki – Member of Parliament
  • Former MP and Education Minister Anna Diamantopoulou and MP Nadia Giannakopoulou have not ruled out running in the race.

Their number could certainly increase before the deadline for filing applications to run for leadership in September. Androulakis proposed postponing the leadership contest, originally scheduled for late 2025, to October 6 this year. A second round would take place on October 13 if no candidate wins an absolute majority of votes in the first round.

Senior and younger PASOK officials, as well as supporters and voters, challenged Androulakis' leadership after the party failed to finish second in the European elections in early June.
