Italian authorities are investigating the brutal murder of a 16-year-old Iraqi girl who was raped and strangled by a fellow countryman when the boat they were on sank 120 miles off the Italian coast.
The suspect, who was also of Iraqi origin, allegedly attacked the teenager in a rage after he saw his wife and daughter drowning at sea when the overcrowded boat carrying them caught fire and capsized on June 17, 2024, AGI reported.
The unfortunate girl was strangled in front of her mother, who reported the murder to Italian police after she, the killer and several other survivors were rescued and taken to a Calabrian port. The suspect is reportedly being held in Catanzaro prison.
