Filming of the internationally produced TV series “Kabul” is taking place in Greece, involving a total of 55 actors and around 4,500 extras.

“Kabul, August 15, 2021: The Americans and their allies promised the Taliban to leave Afghanistan by August 31. In return, the Taliban promised not to capture the city of Kabul. The Afghan army guards all the gates of the city to ensure that the agreement is respected and the population is confident that the capital is inaccessible. When As diplomatic and military personnel from France, Italy, Germany and America prepare to leave, everything turns upside down – within hours Kabul falls into the hands of the Taliban.”

That's the story. In fact, the series “Kabul” explores one of the most shameful pages in US historywhen the Taliban threat causes panic in Kabul and a chaotic evacuation of various characters, from diplomats and soldiers to civilians collaborating with the occupation administration, desperately seeking to escape Afghanistan to save their lives.

Kabul – European co-production of Cinétévé, 2425 Films, COSMOTE TV, France Televisions, Blonde, European Alliance, New8, RAI, etc. This is the second international feature series (after “Tehran”) in which COSMOTE TV participates as a co-producer. The series, based on real events, will consist of 6 episodes and will air on COSMOTE TV in 2025.

Filming is currently underway in locations around Attica (Chalyvurgiki, Tatoi and Elefsina military airports, Hadjikonsta Foundation, OAKA, Botanikos, Keratea, etc.).

French producer Charlotte Ortiz (Cinétévé) in turn, noted the perspective with which they approached the scenario: “We wanted to tell the story from the perspective of the French, but given that this is an international series, we knew we would have to add other nationalities. We didn't want the story to be told from the American side, that was never the goal, but without American soldiers there can't be a complete story.” In addition, she emphasized that the script was inspired by reality, but does not reflect it exactly.
About the script Charlotte Ortiz said: “We wanted to see what the daily life of Afghan citizens is like, so we created the story of an Afghan family in which we see different ages and different problems that each of its members has to face regarding work, life and their future.”
Talking about how they chose Greece to film, Charlotte Ortiz said: “Of course we couldn't film scenes in Afghanistan. We are happy that we found Greece to create this series as we wanted to find a place that was similar to Afghanistan and believable. We are not saying that Greece is like Afghanistan, but we have chosen places that suit our purpose. It's very important that we were able to do this together with all the wonderful people and technicians, as well as COSMOTE TV and Blonde, who are true partners.”

The duration of filming is estimated at 68 days (will end on 3/07) and will take place entirely in Greece, according to Faye Tsitsipi, Head of Strategic Analysis and Production, COSMOTE TVwho, in particular, said:It was very useful for us to meet partners abroad. In addition, we were able to create amazing scenery, for example, in Steelworks we created an entire “airport”. So we don't just make beautiful things, we make different things.”
