NATO troops are already in Ukraine, “at their own peril and risk”

Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, in an interview with the Financial Times, admitted that some Western NATO countries have already sent military personnel to Ukraine to train Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers.

Edition BB.LV tellsthat, according to Kallas, the defeat of foreign soldiers by Russia will not automatically trigger paragraph 5 of NATO’s mutual defense article:

“I can't imagine that if someone gets hurt there, those who sent their people will say: 'This is Article 5. Let's … bomb Russia.' This is wrong. It's not automatic. So these fears are unfounded.”

The Prime Minister of Estonia believes that the West should not be afraid of sending its troops to Ukraine, but one must remember that “there is a war in the country, and you are at risk”:

“Russian propaganda only talks about war with NATO, so they don't need a reason for it. Whatever we do on our side… If they want to attack, they will attack.”

Estonia, according to Kallas, did not send its soldiers and officers to Ukraine – parliamentary approval is required to send instructors:

“This is an open public debate, but I think we shouldn't rule anything out right now.”

Let us remind you that most Western countries are against sending troops to Ukraine. In March of this year, our publication reported that Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba called on allies speed up support for Ukraine and send, among other things, training missions to the country.
