The favorite habit of the Greeks – drinking a glass of coffee, and more than one throughout the day, has turned into a kind of luxury, as prices have risen significantly.
The rise in the cost of the drink is not accidental. The reasons for the increase in prices are: a decrease in the Robusta coffee harvest in Vietnam (due to drought) and an increase in transport costs due to attacks Houthis to the Suez Canal. The increase in the cost of Robusta also affected the price of Arabica coffee.
Coffee prices are expected to rise by 10–20% in both supermarkets and catering. Now a glass of coffee (to go) will turn into a “luxury item”. New coffee prices:
- French (gallico): 1.80–2.30 euros.
- Instant coffee (frappe): 1.70–2 euros.
- Greek (helliniko): 1.80–2.20 euros.
- Espresso Fredo: 2–2.20 euros 2.40–2.60 euros
- Cappuccino Fredo: 2.20–2.40 euros 2.60–2.90 euros
- Cappuccino (double): 2.20–2.40 euros, 2.60–2.90 euros.
A paper cup of coffee can cost up to 50–60 euros per month for an employee. Few people take a pre-prepared drink from home to cut down on monthly expenses. According to a consumer survey, despite high prices, 53% of Greeks do not think of giving up coffee “out of home” (to-go).
