Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and the country's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian were killed in a helicopter crash on Sunday.
How reports May 20, Mehr Agency, a helicopter carrying the Iranian President crashed on Sunday in a dense forest in East Azerbaijan.
The helicopter's passengers – Ebrahim Raisi, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the governor of the Iranian province of East Azerbaijan Malek Rahmati and Ayatollah Mohammed Ali Ale-Hashem, the representative of the leader of the Islamic Revolution in the province of East Azerbaijan – along with several other people died.
The plane of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was completely burned out as a result of the crash, reports On May 20, Reuters, citing a government source: “President Raisi’s helicopter was completely burned out in the crash.”

“Ibrahim Raisi met with an accident and suffered martyrdom while serving and fulfilling his duties to the people of Iran,” the agency said in a statement.
Later, information about the death of the head of state was confirmed by Iranian Vice President Mansouri. In accordance with Art. 131 of the Iranian Constitution, in the event of the death of the president, his powers pass to the first deputy. This position has been held by Mohammad Mokhber since 2021.
In total, the Iranian President's motorcade included three helicopters. Two of them reached their destination safely. Iranian Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabiyan and Roads and Urban Development Minister Mehrdad Bazrpash were flying on them. According to the Tasnim agency, the crashed helicopter was an American Bell 212. It is capable of carrying up to 14 people and reaches a cruising speed of 190 km/h.
