The Greek capital is filled with a variety of scents, earning it the title of “best-smelling city” in a Haypp poll. What helped Athens top this list?
The Haypp survey examined factors such as cleanliness, the number of bakeries and flower shops, perfume shops – in general, everything that fills cities with a special smell. The study says, quotes newsbeast.gr:
“Athens is known for its open-air markets and food culture, the aroma of fresh produce, herbs and traditional Greek cuisine. These scents fill the Athenian air, creating an unforgettable olfactory experience.”
Athens has 31 bakeries within 10 km, selling everything from crispy cheesecake to delicious baklava. The Greek capital has 31 flower shops and 22 perfume shops within 10 km. Combined with the cleanliness score, these are all elements that convincingly place Athens in first place, with a rating of 8.3 out of 10. The top ten “smelly” leaders look like this:
