The government is completely lost in everyday life: high prices and crime have destroyed the reason for its existence

The editor-in-chief of the popular Greek publication ProNews, Theophrastos Andreopoulos, believes that the New Democracy party won the elections because it promised the population a solution to the problems of everyday life of citizens, but reality showed that she was defeated.

Although New Democracy is not threatened by other parties, it is threatened in the minds of citizens by its own evil self. What has happened recently in the area of internal security, with the murder of a 28-year-old girl outside a police station, and of course other incidents of violence – in schools, universities and neighborhoods – has created a perception among citizens that they are not in safety neither outside their homes, nor inside them, nor anywhere else.

Concerning high costthen in a recent MRB poll, 44% said they consider it along with the state of the economy, the biggest problem in the country. Thus, the government measures have failed and people can no longer find excuses, because Greece is the only country in EUalong with Spain, where inflation continues to rise.

When it comes to the rule of law, for obvious reasons, perhaps no one can say what they want in public, but very few citizens believe that it actually exists.

The worst thing for New Democracy will come after the Ministry of Justice's conclusion on Tempi and its call for an investigation into criminal charges against Kostas Karamanlis. Here the ND will have a big problem, because if he does not agree to the creation of a preliminary investigative committee, he will be publicly exposed, and the impression will be created that he is covering up for the former minister at any cost.

And if this happens before the European elections, it will cause even greater dissatisfaction among people who are looking for justice, and (according to MRB) 61% of respondents want the creation of a preliminary investigative committee.

What worries New Democracy is that SYRIZA is showing growth in numbers, while Stefanos Kasselakis has not announced his program, has not given any program for the elections to the European Parliament. In fact, the opposition leader managed to lift his party in the polls by five percentage points thanks to his communication skills alone and appears to have stabilized in second place. His choice of a list of European candidates with presenters, debaters, businessmen, etc. goes beyond the left party and attracts the interest of a large part of society.

Another problem New Democracy faces is Greeks abroad. Only 20,000 expat Greeks have registered on the absentee voting platform, meaning they are not interested in voting, and after the Anna Michelle Asimakopoulou scandal they no longer have confidence in the process.

Considering everything that has happened, the government is going to the European elections without convincing arguments. In other words, he has nothing to tell voters to get them to vote for him. The trend in polls shows that ND is likely to fall below 30% in the European Parliament elections. European elections do not lead to the formation of a government, but they do create trends.

Trends that are usually irreversible…
