High prices continue to overwhelm the Greek market, as there is no end to the overpricing of basic products, causing headaches for consumers.
According to IELKA research, in March compared to January, an increase of 11.2% was recorded for water and soft drinks; by 7.46% for fresh fruits and vegetables; by 6.78% for cookies, chocolate, confectionery; by 6.67% for nuts and snacks.
In contrast, prices for cheese fell by 3.7%, dairy products by 3.39%, and paper products by 1.22%. However, at the same time, there are concerns about rising prices for fruits and vegetables. In particular, the rate of price growth in these categories several times higher than in Europe as a whole.
As the data shows ELSTAT, the monthly increase in vegetable prices in Greece is 6.5%, while in the European Union this figure is 0.6%. For fresh fruit, the rate of price growth in Greece is even higher, at 12.2%, while in the rest of the European Union it is 6.3%.
For their part, manufacturers explain the rise in prices by increasing production costs, sanctions against the Russian Federation and claim that they are doing everything possible to keep prices at this level. “We are now producing new seeds, and raw materials have tripled in price” says producer Anestis Karipidis.
