The Greeks tried to disrupt the concert of the US Military Academy in Larissa

A clash with the police ended a protest rally of Larisa residents on the evening of Wednesday, March 27, at a concert of the US Military Academy in the hall of the Larisa Municipal Conservatory.

A group of protesting city residents gathered near the building to oppose the concert, including representatives of the Communist Party of Greece. While the event continued and the protest was peaceful at first, suddenly some people tried to force their way into the hall, to which the police responded. A conflict occurred during which police used batons and tear gas.

On the occasion of the planned concert of the US Military Academy at the Larissa Municipal Conservatory, the Labor Center organized a protest rally on Wednesday in the city's main square. “They came to tell us that our country's participation in imperialist plans is the norm, and we should accept it by listening to the music.”the President said in his statement Larisa Labor Center Mr. Yiannis Skokas, calling this event an unacceptable action.

Larisa Peace Committee also took part in the protest. On his behalf, the Chairman of the Committee, Ms. Dimitra Pastergiou, noted: “We oppose the concert with the participation of the US Military Academy Choir and demand its cancellation. Obviously, on the occasion of the concert, the most bloodthirsty army on the planet is given a platform to “wash themselves off” through art and culture, so that they are accepted by the labor movement, the residents of our city, in order to “embellish” the atrocities and crimes that they have committed throughout the planet.

Art and culture teach friendship between peoples and peace, unite people. Indeed, what song will be the one that will commemorate peace, solidarity and friendship of peoples? We are living through a time when our country is involved in war on the fronts from edge to edge. Two years after the official start of the war in Ukraine, the war in Palestine is turning into a real genocide (more than 30,000 Palestinians killed, most of them women, small children and teenagers, since October 7), the frigate Hydra is already in the Red Sea for support for US operations and EU, and the protection of shipowners' vessels, and Greece came under the control of the Greek EU Operational Command, based at the 1st Army base in our city). “When the USA-NATO-EU exterminate peoples all over the Earth, and recently in our country, we cannot lend them a helping hand, give them “land and water” for supposedly some kind of cultural event. This is a terrible example and bad education for the youth of the city that they are forced to give an alibi to those who destroyed Yugoslavia, who support and strengthen the murderous state of Israel in order to carry out the genocide of the Palestinian people, where thousands of children have been killed today:

• We demand that Greece's participation be terminated immediately.
• No frigate or personnel of the Greek Armed Forces should be sent to the Red Sea or any other mission beyond the borders.
• Close all eastern US bases and infrastructure.
• Evict all American and European officials from our city, they are undesirable!”

After the meeting, a procession followed to the Municipal Conservatory of Larisa, where the protest participants were met by a barrier of fighters from the MAT special squad.
