Dora Bakoyanni promotes Kosovo's admission to the Council of Europe


The Political Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) advocated the entry of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo into the Council of Europe. The speaker was Dora Bakoyannis, sister of the current Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

“The Political Affairs Committee meeting in Paris recommended inviting Kosovo to become a member of the Council of Europe”– says a message published on the official PACE page on the social network X. The next step will be the plenary debates and voting in the assembly expected on April 18.

The speaker at the meeting of the PACE political committee considering Pristina's application for membership of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo in the Council of Europe was Greek parliamentarian Dora Bakoyannis, who was the head of the Greek Foreign Ministry when Pristina declared independence from Belgrade in 2008. So, on the one hand, the Greek government says that it is not considering the issue of recognizing Kosovo, but on the other, they are doing everything to legalize it.

Serbia reacted sharply to the attempt to recognize Kosovo. The decision of the political committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to recommend the admission of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo to the Council of Europe is shameful and scandalous, it proves the failure and end of international law, said First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Serbia Ivica Dacic.

“The decision of the PACE political committee to recommend the admission of the so-called Kosovo to membership of the Council of Europe is shameful and scandalous, violates all the principles on which the Council of Europe is founded. For the first time, admission of a territory that is not a member of the UN and not internationally recognized is proposed. This decision threatens and violates our territorial integrity and sovereignty, and represents further evidence of the failure and end of international law,” – the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs quotes Dacic’s statement.

On Wednesday night, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic reported on social networks about threats to vital interests and “the most difficult period ahead” for the country, without indicating what exactly it is about. Now, a few days later, his words became clear: Greece, in fact, betrayed Serbia, promoting the recognition of Kosovo as a separate state.
