Greek village looking from above, "like the picture"

The village is considered a “miracle” due to its expressive layout.

Unsightly “patches” on the asphalt, raised tiles on the sidewalks, “broken/crumpled” infrastructure, narrow crooked alleys – this is the picture in most cities, villages and communities in Greece, which is not famous for its “harmonious perfection”.

A brilliant exception to the rule, however, is the small village of Nea Koroni in the prefecture of Messinia, an unknown masterpiece of urban planning, so harmoniously designed that it looks like an architect’s geometric sketch.

Nea Koroni, located near the coast of Messinia, is naturally an “offshoot” of the historical village of Koroni. A YouTube video from Up Stories shows a symmetrical top view of the community.

This urban “miracle” is of course unprecedented from a Greek point of view, but it is not so incredible if we consider that Nea Koroni is comparatively newly built settlement compared to historic villages built haphazardly and without organized planning.

In the video, eight roads can be seen radiating out from the central roundabout, each ending at the ring road, forming a perfect square with two diagonals and two medians.

The image is not only impressive, but also serves as an example of how architectural planning in urban development should really be done.
