A pensioner gave an ambulance a car in memory of her son

A new and fully equipped EKAB ambulance (Katerini) was donated by pensioner Irini Paraskevopoulou in memory of her son, who died several years ago.

She herself, speaking on the ERT TV channel, told her shocking story. The elderly woman said she decided to donate because of the dedication, professionalism and spirit of the medical staff at Agios Dimitrios Hospital in Thessaloniki. “The loss of my child, who died unjustly, motivated me to take this action,” she said.

Ms. Irini said the money did not come from savings she and her husband earned, but from government compensation related to the heroic actions of her military father. “This money was obtained with the blood of my father,” she emphasized. “My son was always proud of him, saying: “My grandfather is a hero.”

As Mrs. Paraskevopoulou explained, her father died on the Albanian front during the last battles, and in return the state gave the family 7 hectares of land, which years later were expropriated for the construction of the main highway. The funds issued as compensation remained in the family’s account for many years until the tragic event associated with the death of their son.

Then the courageous woman decided to donate an ambulance using this money. Irini Paraskevopoulou stressed that it would be blasphemy if the money received from her father’s heroism and self-sacrifice were spent unnecessarily and did not somehow return back to the homeland for which he himself fought.

Today, 20/03/24, a new ambulance will be handed over to EKAB. Mrs. Paraskevopoulou ordered the car a year ago, and now her wish has come true.
