Israeli team fans "Maccabi" beat a Palestinian on Syntagma


Today (7/3) at about 2 o’clock in the afternoon an incident occurred on Syntagma, the main characters of which were fans of the Tel Aviv football team “Maccabi” who beat a young man wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh.

A few hours before the match with Olympiacos, Israeli fans who had come to Greece for the match gathered in Syntagma Square.

There they shouted slogans and lit smoke bombs, and as they left, they attacked a young man wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh on the steps of the Syntagma metro station. According to the Israeli publication Yediot News, the Palestinian shouted something offensive at the Israelis. According to other sources, he threw a can of beer at them and started a verbal altercation with references to the war in Gaza.

According to first information, the man received minor injuries, and a nervous situation arose at the scene.

The injured Palestinian lost consciousness and fell on the steps of Syntagma. Judging by the photo, in which the keffiyeh is missing, it was torn off by the Israelis.

An EKAV ambulance was dispatched to the scene and transported the injured man to KAT Hospital, while the police led the Maccabi fans away towards Singro Avenue.

Tense situation in Syntagma: Maccabi Tel Aviv fans injured a Palestinian a few hours before the game with Olympiacos. Several Maccabi fans were in Monastiraki on Wednesday evening (7/3), where they shouted slogans and lit smoke bombs.
