New subsidy program for long-term unemployed over 55 years of age

The Joint Ministerial Decision (CMD) to launch a 24-month employment subsidy program for 1,300 long-term unemployed people over the age of 55 was signed by the Minister of Labor and Social Security Domna Mikhailidou, the Minister of Internal Affairs Niki Kerameos and the Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Thanos Petralias.

The program, with a budget of 31.2 million euros, aims to create a total of 1,300 new full-time jobs in the public health sector by attracting unemployed people aged 55 years and over.

Beneficiaries of the program are unemployed people aged 55 to 67 years, as well as unemployed people over 67 years of age and under 74 years of age who have not reached the retirement age required to receive a full pension, registered in the digital register of the unemployed of the Public Health Service.

The amount of benefit per recipient is set at 75% of wage costs and non-wage expenses up to 750 euros and is covered from the budget DYPA and government bodies in which benefit recipients will work.

Minister of Labor and Social Security Domna Mikhailidou said: “Our task is to support the workforce and find solutions. It is in this context that a labor market integration program is being implemented for 1,300 long-term unemployed people over 55 years of age. With this program, we not only support the long-term unemployed, but also strengthen the structures of the health care system. Our goal is clear – to further increase the disposable income of citizens. No one will be left behind.”

PS Who will select these 1300 people? After all, there are many more unemployed people of this age…
