Ukraine will confiscate the assets of Ivan Savvidis

The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine satisfied the claim of the Ministry of Justice about confiscation of assets of Greek-Russian businessman Ivan Savvidis and his wife Kyriakiabout this on February 8 reported public organization “Anti-Corruption Center”, which supported the lawsuit.

The decision was made by a panel of three judges. A statement published on the website of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine said that on Thursday the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine granted a request to seize Savvidis’ assets in the country. The arrest was imposed in accordance with the Ukrainian law on sanctions.

Savvidis – “a Russian businessman of Greek origin who has close ties with the Russian government and the ruling United Russia party. He is the president of the Federation of Greek Communities of Russia, through which he provides ideological support for the actions of the aggressor state, glorifying the president of the aggressor state and military personnel participating in hostilities in Ukraine. This activity is permanent and long-term in nature, and has been carried out since 2014”– says the message of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.

Among the confiscated assets are all shares of the private joint stock company PentoPak, which produces polyamide food packaging, and the entire authorized capital of the Ukrainian subsidiary of the Atlantis-Pak company, which produces food packaging.

Ivan Savvidis, born in Soviet Georgia in 1959 into a family of Pontic Greek emigrants, was a member of the Russian parliament from 2003 to 2011 from the United Russia party. He is a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, which advises the Russian President.

Summer 2023 project “Trap for the Aggressor” The StateWatch analytical center included Savvidis on a list of 25 oligarchs whose companies serve the Russian military-industrial complex and whose assets have not yet been confiscated by Ukraine.

Among the confiscated assets of Savvidis are 100% of the corporate shares of PJSC Pentopak, which is one of the leaders in the production of packaging for meat and sausage products, and 100% of the corporate rights of its subsidiary Atlantis-Pack Ukraine. ANTAC reported that Kiriyaki’s wife Savvidi is the nominal owner of a number of companies in Ukraine, although her husband actually owns the business.

In Greece, Ivan Savvidis owns in shares the port of Thessaloniki, the PAOK football club, hotels, manufacturing enterprises, and real estate. In 2012, he acquired a controlling stake in the Greek football club PAOK. In February 2013, Savvidis took over the management of the Macedonia Palace Hotel in Thessaloniki. He has also acquired a number of historical villas in Thessaloniki (such as Longos Mansion, Villa Zardinidi, etc.), and his recent investment in Porto Carras amounts to half a billion euros.

In June 2021, Savvidi gained control of the operator of the Greek seaport of Thessaloniki. His company Belterra acquired shares in Terminal Link SAS, becoming the sole owner of the former syndicate with the German and French companies. Savvidi’s share in the port itself increased to 71.9%.

Ivan Savvidis also owns shares in several leading Greek TV channels and newspapers. He owns 19% of Mega Channel, and in 2017 his company Dimera Media acquired Pegasus Publications, which includes the newspapers Ethnos and Imerizia. On August 11 of the same year, he bought E-Channel from businessman Filippos Vrionis.

In 2022, during the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, Savvidis ordered his associates to prepare some 487 rooms at the Porto Carras resort in Chalkidiki, northern Greece, to accommodate refugees from the country.
