Saudi Arabia will not recognize Israel until a Palestinian state is created

Saudi Arabia reiterated to the US that the kingdom’s position is that it does not recognize Israel and will not establish diplomatic relations with it until the state of Palestine is established and recognized within the 1967 borders with its capital in East Jerusalem and Israeli “aggression” in the Gaza Strip has stopped, according to a Foreign Ministry press release published on February 7.

On Tuesday, February 6, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby assured reporters during a White House press briefing that President Joe Biden’s administration had received a “positive” response from the governments of Washington’s two key partners regarding the continuation of normalization talks between them. relationships.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry made it clear that it made the statement in response to Mr. Kirby’s statement.

The ferment to restore diplomatic relations between the kingdom and the Jewish state has intensified since 2020, when Riyadh tacitly accepted the decision of the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain to recognize Israel.

But the normalization plan, which Washington strongly backs, has been on ice since October, when the war between Israel and Hamas began, sources familiar with Riyadh’s position told Reuters.
