Vandals desecrated a Greek temple

In Greece, on February 4, the Cathedral of the Greek Orthodox Church in the city of Larisa was desecrated.

Vandals painted the walls of the temple with inscriptions in support of LGBT people and insults against the Church, Metropolitan Larissa and the Virgin Mary.

The Church of St. Achillius of Larisa, the patron saint of Larisa, was desecrated on the eve of the reading of the synodal circular of the Church of Greece on the bill to legalize gay marriage. Unknown people wrote slogans on the ground and walls directed against the Orthodox faith and Metropolitan Jerome personally.

One of them reads: “Greece is dying” and people live “in the hell of family, religion and priests.” Another says: “No to violence, yes to lesbianism.” In front of the main entrance, the vandals made vulgar inscriptions addressed to Metropolitan Larisa, and on the steps – directed against the Virgin Mary.

Metropolitan Jerome of Larisa is one of the Greek hierarchs who resolutely and actively opposes the government initiative. He called on the Church not to stop the legal fight against the new form of marriage, even after the law was passed by parliament, writes SPZh.
