Man sentenced to 12 months in prison for dating a minor

According to Greek law enforcement agencies, the 29-year-old man was found guilty of “seducing a minor.”

The Rhodes court, consisting of three jurors and assessors, returned a sentence of 12 months’ imprisonment, suspended for 3 years.

In his testimony, the man claimed that he began a conversation with the underage girl, believing that the profile was not real, and that “everything happened very quickly” before he realized what he was doing. The defendant noted that it was a “big mistake,” adding that he had “never done anything like this before.”

According to information provided by law enforcement agencies, the father of a minor girl came to the Ialysos police station last Sunday, January 28, and reported that “an unknown man was approaching his minor daughter through social networks (facebook) and even offered her a meeting in order to engage in sex.”

As the 14-year-old girl told the police, she told a “virtual friend” about her young age, but the unknown person did not show any fear and said that “he didn’t care.”

The minor, however, told her parents about the messages she received from the “virtual friend” and what the man said and suggested to her. Thus, her 39-year-old mother “took matters into her own hands” – she continued communicating with the pedophile, began writing messages on behalf of her daughter with the goal of catching the rapist “red-handed.”

The meeting was scheduled for the same day (January 28, 2024) at 17:30 near the hotel.

According to the case file, when the man arrived at the meeting place, he sent a message on social networks – a video from his mobile phone, the footage of which shows him sitting in a car and communicating with a minor. It was at this time that the arrest took place.
