Igor Strelkov was sentenced to four years in prison


The Moscow City Court sentenced former FSB officer Igor Strelkov (Girkin) to 4 years in a general regime colony.

How reports According to RIA Novosti, the Russian court also banned Strelkov from administering websites on the Internet for three years.

During the debate between the parties, the prosecutor asked to sentence Strelkov to four years and 11 months in a general regime colony – one month less than the maximum possible punishment under this article.

The hearings were held behind closed doors, but the announcement of the operative part of the verdict was open.

How reported our publication, Strelkov was detained in July 2023. Strelkov is one of the most ardent supporters of Russia’s war against Ukraine. Recently, he has criticized the Russian leadership – and especially the military command – for failures during the fighting in Ukraine. In November 2022, a court in The Hague found Strelkov and two of his alleged accomplices guilty in the case of the crash of a Malaysian Boeing in the skies over Donbass in July 2014 and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

In mid-November, Strelkov asked his associates to begin a campaign to nominate him as a candidate for the presidency of the Russian Federation. In early December, he said that he was afraid of repeating the fate of ex-leader of PMC Wagner Yevgeny Prigozhin, who died in a plane crash.
