The bill on confiscation of property for disseminating false information about the army was approved by the State Duma of the Russian Federation in the first reading.
How reports Euronews, 395 deputies supported it, three opposed it. The bill establishes tougher criminal liability for public calls for activities directed against the security of Russia and prescribes a mechanism for confiscation of money, valuables and other property.
The bill changes Article 280.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation: all crimes of a sabotage nature will be classified as activities aimed against the security of the Russian Federation. The article will be supplemented with qualifying criteria that increase liability: for selfish reasons or for hire, as well as for reasons of political, national, religious hatred or enmity.
The bill was supported by the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Investigative Committee, the Ministry of Justice and Rosfinmonitoring. It must go through two more readings, and then it will be sent for approval by the Federation Council and the signature of the President of the Russian Federation.
