In the early morning of January 14, shots were fired at a gas station in the Neo Kosmos district of Athens: one of the most senior representatives of the Greek mafia was killed.
The unknowns acted quickly. Using a Kalashnikov assault rifle, they opened heavy fire as the 44-year-old man left the gas station and quickly retreated, leaving behind 81 shell casings and a lifeless body. According to law enforcement, it is possible, judging by the number of cartridges, that two types of weapons were used.
The crime scene has been cordoned off, and officers from the homicide and extortion department are looking for evidence. The criminal operation was carried out professionally, lasted only a few seconds, and immediately the perpetrators disappeared from the territory, which was considered to be well guarded and frequently patrolled. This gas station is located at the intersection of Ilias Iliou and Francis streets (Ηλία Ηλιού και Φραντζή). Police are trying to determine the route the criminals took to leave the scene of the incident.
They had already tried to kill the deceased five years ago. On October 29, 2018, a white van approached the car of then 38-year-old Ε.Z., parked near the office of an oil company in Piraeus. The executioners fired, but the Kalashnikov assault rifle jammed, as a result of which only 3-4 bullets wounded the man in the legs and arms. The alleged victim was associated with Bella Mafia, 33-year-old K.A., who goes by Bella Mafia on Instagram. She was killed a month earlier in her car in the parking lot near her house in Kifissia.
The name of the then 40-year-old E.Z. also came up in the testimony of “The Face”, a relative of one of the leading members of the Greek mafia, who uncovered much of its criminal activities. According to her testimony, a relative asked her to photograph the President of the Court of Appeal, Paraskevi Kalaitsi, who was hearing the Panagopoulos kidnapping case, and show her photographs to Ε.Z. in order to eliminate her. However, the intention was not fulfilled, the death contract was not fulfilled, since the man was arrested for carrying a weapon.
In May 2019, in Maniatika, 54-year-old “Daskalos” or “Kavouras” (“Δάσκαλος” ή “Κάβουρας”) was killed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle. He was suspected of involvement in the murders of “Sabrella” or “Karafla”, (“Σαμπρέλα” ή “Καράφλα”), known online as “Bella Mafia”, and bodybuilder Vasilis Grivas in May 2017 in Γλυκά Νερά. He was the “mentor” of the 40-year-old Ε.Z.
