D. Kairidis: "Minister who disagrees with same-sex marriage and gay adoption should resign".

LGBT lobby in government strikes back

The Mitsotakis government appears to have brought to the fore a number of leaders who are now openly calling for tough action if their colleagues say yes to pushing forward their desired homosexual agenda.

Dimitris Kairidis not only took a positive stance on the legislation the government is expected to put forward on same-sex marriage and the right of gays to adopt children, but also called for a harsh crackdown on those members of the New Democracy Party (several of whom are historical members of the right wing) who do not want to support what he calls for.

“Clearly anything that brings a population out of a marginalized position and gives them the rights to which they are entitled, especially vulnerable children from such partnerships, is in the right and positive direction.” Kairidis said about same-sex marriage.

“There is no doubt, but the fact that there is a strong negative reaction in Greek society is well known to us members of parliament. But I wanted to say that we are in politics not to do easy things, but to do hard things. This is a struggle that we must wage, convince with arguments, and there are arguments for everything (…). I hope that we will not be able to convey this message to the people, because it will be very unfortunate for these fellow citizens, for the government initiative and for our country as a whole. But I think that New Democracy is on the European side of history on these issues.” – he added.

“Everything is clear with the ministers”Kairidis finally said, answering the question whether party discipline would be introduced or a vote of conscience would take place on the above-mentioned resolution, emphasizing the following: “As government spokesman Mr Marinakis said, it is inconceivable that there would be no discipline.

In other words, it is impossible to have a major legislative initiative, any legislative initiative, but a major legislative initiative such as this resolution will be, and have a minister remain a minister while dissenting. What we’re saying is that if someone doesn’t agree, they should resign, I guess. Be that as it may, these are all the words of the government representative. Besides this, with members of parliament, let me wait for a broader position.”
