Anti-rating of airports in the world: which are in the top ten "stressful"

Weather, strikes, system failures and many other factors affect the operation of airports. The VisaGuide.World service warns that the anti-rating it compiled will help you avoid troubles while traveling.

The service presented its anti-rating of air harbors around the world as of December 2023. The past year has been difficult for air travel. And although passengers, of course, cannot influence many factors, they can at least choose the airport from which to travel. This is where the presented anti-rating comes in handy.

The study, conducted by visa advice website VisaGuide.World, was a survey of 1,642 air passengers from 53 nationalities who took at least two international flights during the past year. First, the researchers asked which aspects of air travel caused them the most stress, and received the following answers:

• a large number of passengers;
• airports that are too large, where it is often difficult to navigate due to their size;
• crowded airports;
• frequency of flight delays;
• distance from the city center.

From this data, VisaGuide.World compiled a ranking of airports using five factors: total number of passengers, airport area in square meters, passenger density per square meter, proportion of annual delays and distance to the city center in kilometers.

As it turned out, writes Euronews, the most “stressful” city in the world last year was London Gatwick, the second largest UK airport. And although it is inferior to other airports in terms of the number of passengers, their density is “off scale”. In addition, it has the longest distance to the city center (43 km) and ranks second in terms of annual flight delays.

In second place is Istanbul Airport, the busiest in Europe. By the way, half of the ten most “stressful” airports in the world are located in Europe. Airport in Istanbul registered 64,289,107 passengers in 2022 and ranked seventh in terms of congestion in the world.

The airport occupies a record area of ​​more than 76 million square meters, so travelers rightly claim that they face difficulties when moving around its territory.

German Munich airport took third place. Compared to Istanbul, it received half as many passengers – 31,642,738, and its size is five times smaller.

In fourth place is international Denver airport in the USAin fifth – British HeathrowEurope’s second busiest airport with 61,614,508 passengers, and is even smaller in area than Munich Airport.

Los Angeles International Airport ranked sixth, followed by Rome Fiumicino International Airport, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport and O’Hare International Airport.
