The production of humanoid robots starts – equipping the RoboFab plant at the final stage (video)

Agility Robotics (USA) is completing the equipment of RoboFab, the world’s first factory for the production of humanoid robots.

Serial production of anthropomorphic robots from the Digit project will begin very soon. They are designed to perform simple functions as parcel couriers, loaders in warehouses and other professions. The two-legged creatures, 1.75 m tall and weighing 65 kg, are capable of moving containers weighing up to 16 kg, squatting to take something from the lower shelves, and overcoming obstacles in the form of thresholds or curbs. If an obstacle gets in Digit’s path, it will stop moving.

Jonathan Hurst, Chief Robotics Specialist at Agility Robotics, explainsthat creating robots with human parameters is not at all a whim of designers:

“We weren’t trying to create a human-like robot. It’s about functionality, because it will have to work in a space designed for people.”

The attractive humanoid robot does not evoke fear or negative attitudes, and is still visually different from a person: its lower limbs are designed like the hind legs of cats or dogs, whose knee joints are turned backwards. This helps Digit maintain balance. The Digit Cassie prototype completed the 100-meter sprint in 24.73 seconds in 2022.

The robot is capable of working 16 hours a day, and then the batteries need to be charged. You can control it using a regular smartphone, but after a few months it should learn to recognize voice commands.

Agility Robotics has ambitious plans – the company plans to release several robots in 2024, and then 10 thousand hardworking humanoids per year will roll off the factory’s assembly lines. Among the first customers is Amazon, which owns giant warehouses for transit goods around the world.

Meanwhile, a ground robot was created for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, reported On January 5, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mikhail Fedorov on Telegram. The Ukrainian ground robot D-21-11 can carry out reconnaissance, attack or defend positions.

Ukraine is already testing the unmanned operation of the D-21-11. The vehicle is capable of performing combat missions in hot spots. Mikhail Fedorov says:

“D-21-11 is a universal Ukrainian robot created by members of the Brave1 defense cluster. The vehicle is equipped with an automatic turret and can carry out combat missions. For example, conduct reconnaissance, storm or defend positions.”

The robot will also be able to deliver ammunition or provisions for fighters. Its warhead is completely removable and has already been successfully tested. The plans are to integrate NATO types of weapons into the work and strengthen resistance to hostile electronic warfare. The team is currently working on scaling production, writes publication “Correspondent”.
