The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine is checking the legality of providing reservation to employees of energy companies

The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine revealed the fact of abuse of official position, now by a former adviser to the minister, and ordered to check the reservation of employees of energy companies liable for military service.

How reports “EPRAVDA”, citing information from the Ministry of Energy, a former adviser to the minister, in order to avoid service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in April last year got a job at PJSC Cherkassyoblenergo, taking the position of deputy head of the central service of metering devices and metrology. Acting together with PJSC officials, the specified employee initiated the issuance of an order introducing remote work:

“As a result, from April to December, the employee did not fulfill his duties, although he received wages, and also received a temporary deferment from mobilization, which is provided to employees of companies and enterprises critical for the functioning of the state.”

To the Ministry of Energy reported, that this fact was revealed by the management of JSC Ukrainian Distribution Networks, a company that manages state-owned stakes in a number of operators of the electricity distribution system, in particular PJSC Cherkassyoblenergo. The Ministry of Energy has issued an order to conduct checks on the provision of a temporary deferment from mobilization to employees of energy companies:

“To prevent manipulation, abuse and to objectively verify the facts of issuing reservations, the ministry has sent a corresponding instruction to all energy companies in the country.”

The department notes that this incident does not characterize all energy workers in the country, some of whom are now defending the state in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, while others are on the energy front, performing their extremely difficult work around the clock.

A corresponding appeal was sent to the prosecutor’s office regarding the former adviser to the minister. As a government source told the publication, the Ministry of Energy’s message refers to ex-adviser to the Minister of Energy Alexander Vizir. After Vizir’s abuses were exposed, the inspection of energy companies was personally initiated by Energy Minister German Galushchenko.

In 2022, while on duty, 98 power engineers were killed in Ukraine and twice as many were injured. This was reported by the Chairman of the Energy Committee of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Gerus. In May 2023, the Department of Energy reported that 119 energy workers had been killed since the start of the full-scale war.

Farid Safarov, Deputy Minister of Energy, says that very often the Russians, upon seeing Ukrainian energy brigades, begin to purposefully open fire on them. Another global problem is the mining of territories by the enemy. At the end of December, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky met with energy industry workers and presented state awards on the occasion of Energy Worker Day. Some energy workers were awarded posthumously.
