Celebrated the New Year in Greece

As the clock struck midnight in Greece, fireworks shot into the sky across the country. The beginning of 2024 was marked by heartfelt wishes and colorful fireworks that lit up the sky in Athens and Thessaloniki.

Music and songs sounded from the music stage installed on Syntagma Square. The New Year’s Eve celebration began with fiery classical melodies performed by the Municipal Philharmonic Orchestra. This was followed by performances by famous pop artists and singers. The magnificent concert gave the audience many positive emotions.

Just before the countdown and the dazzling explosion of a spectacular fireworks display, the new mayor of Athens addressed a crowd of thousands in a square located “in the heart of Greece.” “Let us remember the value of community and solidarity to make Athens a more creative place, without the inequalities that plague society,” the city’s new mayor, Haris Doukas, addressed Athenians from the vibrant music scene.

As Mr. Doukas emphasized: “I welcome everyone so that we can all enter 2024 together with hope and belief that we can achieve our goals and do everything possible, even the impossible. For me, it is a unique axiom and an unprecedented experience to welcome the New Year here among you. I draw your attention to the value of solidarity. I call you believe in small and big miracles that can be accomplished if we all join forces. Make Athens greener, more creative, fight the inequalities that plague our society for the sake of the Greece we love and dream of. As we head into 2024 tonight, let’s keep our dreams alive and work together to make them come true. May the new year make us all fairer, more united, more optimistic.”

On New Year’s Eve in Thessaloniki, night turned into day with electrifying fireworks displays. Many people gathered in Aristotle Square. Smiles were shining, music was playing.
