Greece donated 50 FIM-92 Stinger MANPADS to Ukraine

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine thanked the Greek government for the FIM-92 Stinger MANPADS donated to Kyiv. Greek media noted that these MANPADS were taken from the islands bordering Turkey, thus exposing the borders of Greece.

FIM-92 Stinger MANPADS have been removed from the islands, and the message from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense is confirmed by Pronews editor Tasos Gouriotis, who a few days earlier revealed to the famous Greek YouTuber Lambros Pashos that, in addition to armored infantry fighting vehicles, they were removed from the islands and delivered to Ukraine “ammunition and portable missiles, Stinger MANPADS”while the Greek government, according to the publication, denies the fact of unilateral disarmament.

According to Tasos Gouriotis, about 50 man-portable air defense systems have been supplied to Ukraine, which are reportedly responsible for the downing of at least 5 Russian helicopters.

The day before yesterday, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine posted on its official account a tweet entitled “Advent calendar of Ukraine: Day 19” (advent calendar counting the days until Christmas), which read:

“Today we present to you the FIM-92 Stinger man-portable air defense system. Many of our allies have donated Stingers to the #UAarmy, including the Netherlands (@Defensie), Germany (@BMVg_Bundeswehr), USA (@DeptofDefense), Lithuania (@Lithuanian_MoD ), Latvia (@AizsardzibasMin), Italy (@MinisteroDifesa), Denmark (@Forsvarsmin) and Greece (@Hellenic_MOD). We are grateful to them for their continued support from the first days of the invasion. In the capable hands of our soldiers, “Stingers” effectively shoot down Russian helicopters, airplanes and missiles.”

Will the Greek government continue to claim that it did not hand over the Stingers to Kyiv? asks Pronews.

In 1988, Greece purchased 1,500 missiles and 500 launchers for $124 million. According to reports, in 1988 Greece acquired another 476 launchers with 1,000 FIM-92B Stinger POST missiles and 1,150 with FIM-92C Stinger RMP missiles. Another 200 missiles were purchased in 2001 and received in 2003-2004.

According to other sources, the number of launchers is 631 and the number of missiles is 3,572, including 1,000 FIM-92B Stinger POST missiles, 1,150 FIM-92C Stinger RMP missiles and 1,322 FIM-92E Stinger RMP Block.1 missiles.
