Five MAT platoons refused to go to the PAO stadium on Alexandras Avenue in protest against the serious injury of their colleague in Renti. They said they would only begin work in the event of unrest.
The “White Strike” in the MAT was initiated by the police themselves, who are called upon to serve in law enforcement at the stadiums. That is, it is not under the umbrella of police unions.
Thus, on Thursday afternoon (12/14), five MAT platoons, which were ordered to go to Panathinaikos Stadium for a match with Maccabi Haifa, refused to go. According to them, they will go there only in case of incidents. However, the platoon commanders were soon called to the Greek police headquarters and, after consultations, the platoons went to their post on Alexandra Avenue in the usual manner. The match will start at 19:45.
Earlier, the Panathinaikos football club issued a statement in which it called on fans to be very attentive to their behavior during today’s (14/12, 19:45) match against Maccabi Haifa at the Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium, according to an official statement from the FC “Panathinaikos”. The Greens emphasize that the match is classified as “high risk” by UEFA, and in the event of inappropriate behavior the club “… will take legal action against those who, through their behavior, cause harm to the team.”
