Weather: African dust is approaching, temperature rise by 10 degrees

Winter has changed its mind about coming to Greece at least until the end of this week, as temperatures are expected to rise to 10 degrees above normal. However, you have to pay for everything, because along with the warm air, a wave of African dust will cover the country.

According to the forecast of meteorologist George Tsatrafilia, in the coming days our country will be covered by a wave of African dust from the coast of Morocco, crossing Algeria, Tunisia and Libya.

As the meteorologist writes in his message, “temperatures on Thursday, which will be the peak of the warm invasion, will be approximately 10 degrees above normal.” He also included a map of the highest temperatures expected in different parts of the country.

Forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday

On Tuesday, slightly cloudy weather is expected in Greece. Before noon, scattered localized rain will occur in Macedonia, Thrace, the eastern Aegean islands, Crete and the Dodecanese. Isolated thunderstorms are possible in coastal areas. There will be light snowfall in the northern mountains in the morning. Visibility in the morning and evening hours will be limited in some places.

The wind in the north will be variable, from 3 to 4 points on the Beaufort scale, in the rest of the country it will blow from the west/northwest, from 3 to 5 points, and locally in the south of the sea 6 points. The temperature will rise slightly. In the north of the mainland it will range from -1°C to +15°C, in the rest of the mainland from 5 to 18-19°C and on the island territory from 12 to 20°C. There will be frost in places in the northwestern continental regions in the morning and evening hours.

Thin clouds are expected on Wednesday, thicker in places. Light localized rain is possible across the western continents from midday. Visibility in the morning and evening hours will be limited in some places. The wind will blow from the south at a speed of 3 to 5, gradually at sea to 6 on the Beaufort scale. Temperatures will rise a little more and will be high for this season.

Weather for Christmas
From next weekend (16-17/12) the temperature will drop significantly, but severe cold is not expected. As for the Christmas weather, it is expected to be mild with above average temperatures, with showers and thunderstorms possible during this period.

It is noted that after the New Year the weather will begin to resemble winter more, with a gradual decrease in temperature.
