The person responsible for seriously injuring a policeman confessed and is under arrest (video)

The perpetrator of the attack on the ΜΑΤ policeman near the Melina Mercouri indoor gym in Renti has confessed and is under arrest.

Incidents in the capital’s Renty area, which left a 31-year-old police officer seriously injured, look set to lead to a “lockdown” of all sporting events. On Saturday under the leadership of Kyriakos Mitsotakis an emergency meeting was held on the issue of violence by fans. The meeting was attended by Ministers of Justice Georgios Florides and Citizens’ Protection Giannis Economou, Deputy Minister of Sports Giannis Vroutis.

How reports CNN Greece, the accused is 18 years old and was detained along with the other 424 people immediately after the riots. The publication notes that the identification and detention of a criminal, wounded their colleague, was a matter of honor for the police, who used every means at their disposal: from findings in the stadium stands and toilets to video recordings.

424 people were taken to the Office for Foreigners. Those brought were fingerprinted and DNA taken, at the same time checking for traces of gunpowder on hands and clothing.

Let us remind you that December 9 clashes occurred between young people in hoods and MAT police. A group of about fifty people left the Polytechnic Institute. At the intersection of Sturnara and Charilau Trikoupi streets, they set up barricades and arson, and then threw Molotov cocktails and stones at MAT police officers who arrived at the scene of the incident. The police detained three people and two were arrested.

Meanwhile, a policeman who was injured during riots at the Melina Mercouri indoor gym in Renti on Thursday 7 December, during the volleyball match between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos, is in Γενικό Κρατικό Νίκαιας in critical condition.

The government intends to take serious measures. One of the issues that is expected to be discussed is the suspension of all sporting events in Greece for the coming period! It is reported that the government’s decision will be announced on Monday.
