This year, winter destinations in Greece are already showing high levels of bookings in advance. For two weeks of holidays (Christmas-New Year and public holidays), more than 90% of the tourist properties available in popular areas of the country are booked.
This year’s leaders are the theme park areas of Drama and Trikala in Thessaly, says Angelos Kallias, secretary general of the Panhellenic Federation of Hoteliers. And according to him, the available beds available in Thessaly are not enough because the demand is huge.
“However, during the winter typically Greek destinations are at 30-40% in terms of hotel occupancy. But as the holiday season approaches, occupancy in general will approach 85-90%,” says Mr Kallias. He says bookings will peak between December 22 and January 7. However, on intermediate holiday days (Tuesday-Thursday) the number of orders is reduced and reaches only 40%.
Areas that traditionally play a major role during the holiday season, in addition to the theme parks, also include ski resorts such as Arachova, and the wider area of Mount Parnassus, Drama, Kalavryta, etc. In any case, notes the President of the Federation of Greek Travel Agencies Lysandros Tsilidis, Epirus, Zagorochoria, Tzoumerka, Xanthi, Kavala, Alexandroupoli, Arcadia, Trikala, Corinthia and the Peloponnese in general will have significant traffic during the holiday period.
