The Prime Minister of Slovakia called for preparations for the normalization of relations with the Russian Federation

Robert Fico, Prime Minister of Slovakia, after a meeting with the ambassadors of the United States and the Russian Federation, spoke in favor of normalizing relations with Russia.

He declared, writes “European truth” that his country should prepare for the normalization of Slovak-Russian relations after the end of the war in Ukraine. During the meeting with the ambassadors, Fico expressed his vision for future diplomatic relations:

“Slovakia is a member EU and NATO, which naturally influences our foreign policy priorities. On the other hand, this cannot limit us in choosing sovereign positions that do not always correspond to the politics of the only correct view promoted in the EU. The foreign policy priority that I intend to implement is the protection and promotion of Slovak national interests, including support for peace initiatives, rather than war in Ukraine.”

The Slovak Prime Minister said that the strategy of Europe and the United States regarding the war in Ukraine “does not work,” so his country will consider normalizing relations with the Russian Federation after the end of the war. Previously, he said that the war in Ukraine is a “frozen conflict” that cannot be resolved by sending weapons to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

On November 29, the Slovak government decided to extend the ban on imports of agricultural products from Ukraine and tighten transit rules.

Previously, our publication reported that the leader of the Smer-SD party, which won the parliamentary elections in Slovakia, intends stop aid to Ukraine. Robert Fico said, repeating his past statement: “People in Slovakia have bigger problems than Ukraine.”
