Counterfeit Botox was sold and illegal operations were carried out in Athens and Thessaloniki

In the northern capital of Greece and Athens, schemers sold unlicensed medicines for “beauty injections” and carried out illegal cosmetic procedures. The confiscated materials are classified as prohibited in the EE and, according to the EOF, are considered hazardous to the health of users.

Greek police produced two arrests on charges of trafficking in unauthorized pharmaceutical Botox preparations, as well as performing illegal medical procedures. The police confiscated 106 medical cosmetic products (hyaluronic acid, Botox, etc.). The two arrested are 32 and 42 years old, and a case has been opened against a 30-year-old woman for illegally performing a medical procedure.

In particular, the Economic Police Department identified a specially designed and equipped room in a house in one of the districts of Athens, where medical procedures were carried out “clandestinely”. During the corresponding police investigation, it turned out that the owner of the house injected her clients with hyaluronic acid and Botox preparations, which are prohibited in the European Union and, according to the National Medicines Agency, are considered dangerous for users. Wanting to popularize her activities, the girl advertised her services and products through accounts on social networks.

Also in Thessaloniki, a trading company selling consumables and nutritional supplements was identified, which was engaged in the supply and placement on the market of unauthorized pharmaceutical preparations for Botox and cosmetic procedures. According to the police, the 32-year-old owner of the company purchased the corresponding drugs from foreign countries, which, according to EOF not considered safeand the further delivery of drugs to clients was in charge of a 42-year-old employee of the company. In total, during searches carried out in Athens and Thessaloniki, the following were discovered and seized:

  • 106 preparations of medical and technological materials (hyaluronic acid, Botox, etc.),
  • vehicle,
  • mobile phone,
  • brochures and leaflets with instructions for the prevention and treatment of side effects (!),
  • diary and handwritten notes.
