On the evening of Thursday, November 23, 2023, the Athens Christmas tree, decorated with 24,000 lights, was lit in Syntagma Square, opposite the Parliament building.

The lighting ceremony was opened by the outgoing mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, in front of hundreds of Athenians and tourists.
The 17 m high tree was delivered from the city of Karpenissi, located in western Greece.
It is illuminated by 24,000 small LED bulbs and decorated with hundreds of balloons and other decorative elements.
More than 83 km of Christmas lights are placed on the city’s trees and pillars, and in the center of Athens, more than 3,800 aerial and arched light decorations set the tone for the festive season.
The full program of festive events of the Athens municipality will be announced in the coming days.
