Parliament approved a bill on the dissemination of terrorist content on the Internet

The Greek Ministry of Justice’s bill to implement the European directive on the dissemination of terrorist content on the Internet was approved at the plenary session of the Greek Parliament on Thursday evening.

After debate and voting, the bill was approved by the New Democracy, PASOK and Niki parties. SYRIZA PA voted in favor, while the Communist Party of Greece, Greek Solution, Spartiates and Plefsi Eleftherias rejected the bill.

On June 7, 2022, the regulation came into force EU 2021/784 on combating the spread of terrorist content on the Internet, according to which Internet companies in the EU must take prompt measures to prevent the misuse of their services for the distribution of such content. According to the EU’s official website, the new legislative framework aims to prevent terrorists from using the Internet to recruit, encourage terrorist attacks, train and glorify their crimes.

PS The adoption of such laws is somewhat straining all European media. After all, journalists understand perfectly well that these measures are aimed at banning criticism of Israel, which in Israel itself has been equated to anti-Semitism, as well as support for Palestine, which for some reason is equated to support for Hamas.
