Organizers of the demonstration in support of Palestine, the largest mass action in London over the past year, chose a far from fortunate day, since November 11 is the day of remembrance for the victims of the First World War in Britain. This was taken advantage of by the British far-right and members of veterans’ organizations who staged their own counter-rally.

The start of the march was preceded by clashes between police and far-right activists, who, according to law enforcement officials, “sought confrontation” with participants of a pro-Palestinian demonstration. Police later announced the arrest of 92 far-right activists

London’s Metropolitan Police said in a post on website X that officers in the city were attacked by protesters in “significant numbers” who chanted slogans such as “British to Death”adding that they have an obligation to oppose the pro-Palestinian demonstration.

Clashes between police and far-right demonstrators took place today at the War Cenotaph memorial, where some far-right demonstrators shouted: “We want our country back”.

In a separate incident in Chinatown, a mile north of the war memorial, right-wing groups threw bottles at police officers, police said.
About 2,000 officers were mobilized to prevent unrest, police said.
