More than 20,000 vehicles blocked on the border between Ukraine and Poland (video)

Thousands of Ukrainian trucks are stuck on the Polish border; Polish truck drivers have been paralyzing passage since the beginning of this week.

They are outraged by “unfair competition from their neighbors” and are demanding the reintroduction of mandatory entry permits for their Ukrainian competitors in order to reduce their numbers. Ukrainian carriers, which are not subject to European standards like Polish ones, can offer a much cheaper service.

The queues at the border are growing and stretch for 40 kilometers. Drivers say:

“We eat what we took from home. We can make tea or coffee if someone has a gas cylinder. If not, then we eat dry. You see, there is a ditch and a field, no toilets, nothing. We go to the border, to ask the Poles what they think. Maybe they pay taxes for us, feed our families? Maybe they have some information…”

The market was previously regulated, but last year Brussels scrapped the permit system for Ukrainian carriers to help the war-torn country. But Polish carriers say they are losing business and blame the government for inaction.

The situation on the border marks a new hitch in relations between Kiev and Warsaw, which have worsened in recent months, in particular due to disagreements over the export of Ukrainian grain to Europe through Poland. writes euronews.

Let us recall that Poland, which has accepted hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees fleeing the war, has been one of the main donors of military assistance to Ukraine for more than a year and a half.
