USA: "armed and very dangerous" – 22 people died, dozens injured in Maine (video)


At 8 p.m. yesterday, Maine police said there was an active shooting in Lewiston, a city of 36,000 people 35 miles north of Portland. At least 22 people were killed and dozens were injured. The message says:

“Law enforcement is attempting to identify Robert Card, born April 4, 1983, as a person of interest in connection with the mass shooting at the Schemengees Bar and Sparetime Recreation this evening. He should be considered armed and dangerous. Please contact law enforcement if you know of his whereabouts.”

The Lewiston Police Department identified 40-year-old Robert Card as the person involved in the shooting and confirmed that the active shooter incidents occurred at two locations – the Schemengees Bar and Grill Restaurant and the Recreation Area. writes CNN. An intensive search is underway for the suspect in the shooting, officials said.

Maine law enforcement officials told CNN that Card is a certified firearms instructor and has military experience in the U.S. Army. He was reportedly committed to a mental hospital last summer after threatening to shoot up a National Guard facility. Lewiston City Councilman Robert McCarthy said 22 people were killed. The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office announced in a Facebook post Wednesday evening:

“We are calling on all businesses to lock down or close while we investigate. Stay tuned for real-time updates.”

Shortly after the shooting, the sheriff’s office released images of the “suspect for identification purposes.” The man was seen holding a high-powered assault rifle. Lewiston police said on Facebook that there were active shooter incidents at Sparetime Recreation, a bowling alley on Mollison Way and the Schemengees Bar & Grille on Lincoln Street.

A city spokesperson initially told the Sun Journal that another shooting was reported at a Walmart distribution center, but a company spokesperson told CNN that no Walmart locations were involved in the incidents. Maine Gov. Janet Mills said Wednesday evening that she had been briefed on the situation:

“I encourage all people in the area to follow the direction of state and local law enforcement. “I will continue to monitor the situation and remain in close contact with public safety officials.”

Between 50 and 60 people were injured in the incidents, although the exact number of injured is not yet known. The suspect remains at large, the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office said. Later it became known that the shooting took place in three different parts of the city, writes foxnews. US President Joe Biden has been briefed on what is known about the mass shooting.
