Benefit for those who heat with electrical appliances

The Greek government is working on support measures that will be announced next week.

Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis announced subsidies for heating and electricity. The authorities have reportedly decided to expand the provision of heating benefits to households using electric devices to heat their homes.

He said that as part of supporting citizens in the coming months in the energy sector, the government is working out in detail support measures, which will be announced next week by Mr. Skilakakis and the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Ms. Sduku. According to him, it includes, among other things, a new heating benefit that will cover most households heated by electricity. He added that If energy prices rise in the new year, a new scheme for targeted consumer subsidies will be reviewed.

“This plan includes, among other things, a new heating benefit that will cover the majority of households heated by electricity. More detailed information will be provided by the political leadership. If energy prices rise in the new year, then the targeted consumer subsidy scheme will be immediately revised. The government’s support for citizens continues, with special care for our most vulnerable fellow citizens, with respect for public finances and the money of Greek taxpayers,” he stressed.

According to information, the benefit will cover electricity consumption from December to April 2024 and range from 100 to 800 euros depending on the area in which the property is locatedas well as the weather conditions prevailing there.

The income criteria will be the same as those that apply to heating benefits for those who consume oil, natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, wood and pellets.
