Russian businessman Dmitry Rybolovlev, who rents the island of Skorpios, invested more than 400 million euros in financing the luxury project. The luxury resort is expected to begin operations next year.
In 2013, Ekaterina Rybolovleva leased several Greek islands, including Skorpios, for $126 million for 99 years. In 2020, the Greek government approved a plan to create a VIP Exclusive Club resort on the island. Rybolovlev plans to turn it into a magnet for the world elite.
A vacation to this unique destination is expected to cost around $1 million a week. Norwegian architectural company Snøhetta is developing a luxury project. The initial budget was estimated at 165 million euros, but Rybolovlev is investing more than 400 million in the project.
The megaresort will offer guests maximum comfort; there will be everything from sports grounds to an equestrian complex. 10,000 sq. m will be built up and equipped. Skorpios will be able to accommodate up to 50 guests at a time, with rent in excess of a million euros per week. The opening of the VIP Exclusive Club in 2024, according to the Greeks, will boost the local economy and attract new investments, writes GreekReporter.
The island of Skorpios in the Ionian Sea was purchased by Aristotle Onassis in 1963 for the equivalent of today’s 13,000 euros. He turned it into a botanical paradise, planting more than two hundred rare plants, creating several beaches, building villas and infrastructure for helicopters and yachts.
