Pilot program for olive harvesting for unemployed people


Sending 500 unemployed people from the region of Western Macedonia to the prefecture of Heraklion (Crete) for seasonal work in the agricultural sector, especially in the olive harvest, is a pilot program being implemented DYPA.

In particular, within the framework of this program an attempt is being made stimulate the unemployed from the region of Western Macedonia to move from their area of ​​permanent residence to the Heraklion regional unit of the Crete region to work in the primary sector, where there is an increased need for labor.

The program provides the unemployed with a travel and accommodation allowance, which is paid during the entire period while recipients are employed in the olive harvest in Heraklion, from October 2023 to January 2024.

Who will they send?

Candidates for relocation to Crete for the purpose of promoting employment are unemployed people registered in the DYAA digital register of employment promotion centers (KPA2) located in the areas of competence of the prefectures of Kozani (KPA2 Kozani and Ptolemais), Florina (KPA2 Florina and Amyndeon), Kastoria (KPA2 Kastoria) and Grevena (KPA2 Grevena), who wish to move from their place of permanent residence to the regional unit of Heraklion to work in the primary sector (olive picking).

Potential beneficiaries are encouraged, following the public announcement of the DYPA, to submit their application exclusively electronically. An electronic application form is available on the DPA website www.dypa.gov.gr.

Benefit amount
The benefit for beneficiaries covers round-trip travel costs of a maximum of 250 euros and living expenses of a maximum of 250 euros per month. When determining the amount of benefits associated with moving expenses, the employee’s salary and number of days of insurance are taken into account.

In particular, the employee receives a benefit equal to the amount of rent and not exceeding 250 euros if he has worked at least 10 days of insurance. If an employee has less than 10 days of insurance per month, the subsidy amount is reduced by 1/10 for each day of insurance less than 10 days.
