Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou spoke about the digitization of the land registry, new identity cards and personal numbers on Monday morning.
In a conversation with MEGA, he said that in 2024 the government will introduce a new form of digital signature and identification. “Anyone who now receives an identity card will have to go to the police again to get a personal number,” the minister noted.
“We insist that the digital copy that goes to the Land Registry be in a specific format and not a scanned copy which will cause us problems processing it. We now ask that they be in a structured format as handwritten references are not easy to read. There is no point in delaying the issuance of certificates for months,” he noted.

As stated by the Minister of Digital Governance, the assistance of notaries will be necessary.
Regarding the issuance of a personal number to a citizen, Mr. Papastergiou emphasized that it will be issued in December next year and no one will need to provide a new identification number. “We have all suffered from the way the state “recognizes (or does not) a citizen. Documents are sometimes lost, and when we receive new ones, we have to provide a lot of evidence that “I am me.” To put an end to these inconveniences, innovation comes – personal number. This is our tax number plus three numbers of your personal choice.”
Speaking about the “personal account”, he emphasized that this is an important change. “From your personal account (electronic archive), with one click you can send all the documents requested by the state,” he said.
